I am fascinated by the journey of painting a likeness... capturing a feeling, emotion and the strength of the subject. I strive each time to find and recreate the essence and personality of everyone I paint. I have recently painted a series of strong, independent young women who are around my daughter’s age. I am amazed at her abilities, intelligence and braveness, and that of her friends and other young women whom I have met recently. With this series of paintings I hope to honour them.
Bio/CV
Angela Burdon’s fascination with the freedom of the spirit is seen in the flowing manes of her wild horses and the spirit and essential inner beauty of her portraits. She explores her passion for nature and emotion with an adventurous mix of materials and mediums.
Formerly a Palliative Care Nurse, Angela combines the techniques she learnt from ateliers in Florence, Barcelona and Seattle with inspiration from such diverse sources as Sorolla, Sargent and Eminem, to fuse her traditional training with a contemporary and life-affirming approach to art.
Born in England but now a resident of Vancouver, British Columbia, Angela used to throw herself off mountains for fun, paragliding. Now she seeks that same liberation at the end of a paintbrush. After her children, her favourite things in life are south-facing properties and a family-size pack of BBQ chips.
