Visual Artist / Writer in Residence Program.


2023-2024 Program Dates:

Thursday June 1st 2023 – Thursday May 23rd 2024

Submission Requirements

       Artist in Residence -  Submission Requirements for 2023-2024: 
  • letter of interest, stating plan of action for the one year residency
  • bio
  • current CV
  • work samples:
    • Visual Artists: up to 15 jpg images, PC compatible, 72 dpi, 1MB max size per image. Each image should be labeled with a number, artist initials and title. Images should be accompanied by an image list which includes: title, date, medium and size.
    • Writers: a 10 page writing sample and list of publication credits.
      This residency is ideally suited to visual artists and writers.

Artist in Residence - Job Description

      The Kent Harrison Arts Council Residency program is a one-year contract, running from June 1 to May 25?,
                                    and is presented by the Kent Harrison Arts Council


Artist in Residence - Gallery Duties

Weekly duties:  (most can be done while sitting in the Gallery on Saturdays, Sundays, and holiday Mondays)
a) Front Desk and administrative duties include but are not limited to the following:
  • greet the public coming into the Gallery providing information about the current Gallery show as well as other Arts Council activities.
  • handle Gallery sales following established sale procedures.
  • answer the Arts Council phone (hanging on the wall beside the window, NOT the Festival Society phone on the desk).
  • check phone voice mail at the beginning of each day in the Gallery and distribute messages to the appropriate persons.  
        Voicemail is accessible remotely and messages are automatically sent as .wav files to the KHAC email.
        These can be forwarded to the appropriate person(s).
  • update the phone voice mail message as required (usually when winter hours start/end).
  • monitor the Arts Council email account, responding where able and distributing other messages to appropriate persons (including voicemail messages – see above).
  • implement the Arts Council publicity plan for Gallery shows, workshops and other Council activities.
         This includes but is not limited to:
        1.  designing and creating posters and fliers for Gallery shows, workshops and other activities.
        2.  distributing posters in Harrison Hot Springs.
        3.  posting Gallery show and other activity information on the Arts Council Facebook page as well as community Facebook 
         groups.
        4.  creating and distributing email blasts through the Mailchimp account.
  • update the KHAC website.
  • Keep the Mailchimp email list, and membership list database up to date.
  • other administrative duties that might arise from time to time.
b) Gallery Cleaning
    Assure that the Gallery floors, sills, shelves and counters are clean, and that shelves and counters are organized and tidy.


Monthly duties::
  • assist the Gallery Director with hanging and taking down monthly shows 
  • prepare for and clean up after receptions
  • maintain gallery walls between shows as required.

Yearly/ongoing duties::  These include but are not limited to the following, on an as-needed basis:
  • The AIR will supply a JPG image of one piece of their artwork to be used for the Gallery’s outside sign and the yearly Arts Council members’ magnets. A $200 honorarium will be paid for this artwork.
  • replace burned-out gallery light bulbs (bulbs will be provided)
  • paint gallery pedestals when required for a show.
